ABOUT US
Competitive and Livable City of Karachi
Karachi; the city of Lights; is the capital of Pakistan’s province of Sindh. It is most cosmopolitan city, linguistically, ethnically, and religiously diverse, as well as one of Pakistan's most secular and socially liberal cities. In recent decades, the city’s livability and competitiveness have deteriorated.Institutional strengthening and investments aiming to enhance livability, competitiveness and sustainability have emerged as priorities for Karachi. To address these constraints by selectively tackling critical bottlenecks and to enhance the quality of life in Karachi the Government of Sindh has introduced a five-year project named as Competitive and Livable City of Karachi CLICK, focusing on the improving the urban management, service delivery, and the business environment in Karachi.
The purpose of Local Government Department of Sindh and Competitive & Livable City of Karachi- CLICK Project is to provide an organized system where councils exercise their power and responsibilities to work together for peace, order and good governance of their municipal districts and this is what we are working together. Local Government Sindh is design with the purpose of creating order in ways that serve our general public democratically, it serves a two-fold purpose. No political system is considered complete and democratic if it does not have a system of strong Local Government.
Muhammad Mubeen Jumani
Minister for Local Government
My experience has shown in comparison to federal and provincial governments, local government is more accessible, more sympathetic, and quicker to respond to local needs. Therefore, local government should be developed and evolved by the local people according to their own experiences and aspirations. That is what happens in developed countries and that is what we are expecting from Competitive & Livable City of Karachi- CLICK Project. The Provincial Government has laid the foundations for an effective and responsive Local Government framework and we are at the forefront of implementing the vision in all aspects through CLICK.
Asif Jan Siddiqui
Program Director, CLICK
Competitive and Livable City of Karachi (CLICK) Project is a World Bank financed project of Government of Sindh. It was felt that the Local Councils of Karachi have been lagging in providing adequate services to their citizens. Reasons included poor management processes and inadequate resources. It is unwise to undermine the economic potential of Karachi, the city has been the backbone of Pakistan’s economy since its independence. Government of Sindh after a careful examination of Local Councils of the city identified problem areas that hinder public service delivery and potential areas from where adequate resources can be generated. CLICK Project is to help the Local Councils of Karachi in improving public service delivery and resource mobilizations.
